As we learned about the Scientific Method the student's worked a lab and learned why poor Mike's bad breathe was keeping the girls away at the school dance. Then we did a procedure lab where one group make an object and the next day another group had to make the same object. Students learned the importance of communication in their steps! I posted pictures of this on our Lions Den Facebook Page. You will see the number bags to help know which ones "should" look the same. We also did a couple labs that extracted some copper atoms from pennies and then transferred them to paper clips!
If you want to be a part of our Lions Den Facebook Page Group, you can search for it on Facebook and our Admin will approve. This is a page just for our current families at CLA.

Even though we only had two days this week, it was a great start! We have everything set to dive into our curriculum next week! Science we will start in Module 1 and learn some basics, including some math! The kids are SO excited about that!! (well..maybe not all of them) Good news for those students is that we will be doing a short unit on the Scientific Method first! Expect a quiz at the end of next week on that!
In History we will begin by reviews some of the basic history of North America and its discovery. Then we will start learning more about the original 13 Colonies and what life was like for them. We will have some activities to help learn this and also have lots of notes of things to learn and know for their test. Tests for all my classes are now posted on the homework calendar, so check dates there. If you haven't already please fill out your student's elective choice (link sent via email) or email me at [email protected] to let me know if they prefer to take Band, Choir or Consumer Science. If they wish to take band they must do so the entire year. If they choose Choir or Consumer Science they may switch at the end of the semester if they wish.
Many may believe that the life of a teacher leads to lots of free time, especially in the summer. :) Those in the profession know different. I've been busy preparing for the school year, though I am taking time to do some fun reading in the hours I'm not working on my room or updating curriculum. One of the things I'm working on is better communication with our families here at CLA. I will be updating this blog each week with what we have been studying and what we will be studying the following week, along with any projects you can look forward to hearing about from your students. If you want to make sure you don't miss any of my posts, including pictures of any experiments or fun things going on in class make sure you subscribe so you can get an email update! I hope you all enjoy your summer and get to read some great books as well!
