We had our first lab yesterday, where we figured out how many pennies it would take to break a fettuccinie noodle! Why we need to know this? Well....no real reason, but the kids had fun and in the process learned the basics behind the Scientific Method. Today we will do a second lab and investigate earthquakes!
This Friday is their first Science test. Students should be studying using their notebooks or Quizlet. Links for the test can be found on their Science Google Classroom.

The craziness has begun! The class did great this week! We have all our notebooks and books all set up and ready to go. We set up our chromebooks for the year and even did a Google Classroom assignment! Next week we will dig in and begin Chapter 1 in both History and Science. In History we will begin at the beginning, creation and talk about how people got from the Garden of Eden to where we are today. In Science we will learn about some basic Geology and start to learn about Plate Tectonics and what can happen when the plates of the Earth meet!
If you haven't already please fill out your student's elective choice (link sent via email) or email me at [email protected] to let me know if they prefer to take Band, Choir or Consumer Science. If they wish to take band they must do so the entire year. If they choose Choir or Consumer Science they may switch at the end of the semester if they wish.
Many may believe that the life of a teacher leads to lots of free time, especially in the summer. :) Those in the profession know different. I've been busy preparing for the school year, though I am taking time to do some fun reading in the hours I'm not working on my room or updating curriculum. One of the things I'm working on is better communication with our families here at CLA. I will be updating this blog each week with what we have been studying and what we will be studying the following week, along with any projects you can look forward to hearing about from your students. If you want to make sure you don't miss any of my posts, including pictures of any experiments or fun things going on in class make sure you subscribe so you can get an email update! I hope you all enjoy your summer and get to read some great books as well!
